Oct 29, 2009:
About 40 Clarens business leaders, artists, and restaurant owners have elected a committee comprising leaders from all disciplines in the village to merge with The Tourism and Business Forum.
Says elected chairperson, local hotel and restaurant proprietor, Simon Kerr: "Clarens hosts thousands of individual tourists and delegates to business conventions and events.
"Organising events in Clarens has until now been a random process and it is intended that The Tourism and Business Forum will simplify the process. Each member is well connected in Clarens, and able to guide potential visitors to the facilities they need."
The opportunities to have fun are many. They include viewing and investing in local or international art, white-water rafting over category 4 rapids, abseiling, testing and improving 4x4 skills, and early-morning ballooning over the mountains - Clarens' eclectic offerings suit all tastes and the Forum serves to assist visitors in having a great holiday.
Situated an hour west of Harrismith, Clarens is an easy drive from cities in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State and North West Province. With an approximate 800 beds, tourists are recommended to book in advance, especially over periods when special events are scheduled such as the annual November Cherry Festival in nearby Ficksburg.
