The stunning mountains of the Cape provide ideal conditions for paragliding.
In Cape Town itself it's very popular to jump from Lion's Head. After a slightly strenuous climb, one is rewarded with a long flight in front of the spectacular setting of the Twelve Apostle Mountains and the beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. There are usually strong thermals at the slope. For the landing there is a field in front of the La Med restaurant. Also popular is gliding from Table Mountain, the Sir-Lowry's Pass and from the Hottentots Holland Mountains.
Because paragliding can be dangerous, it is only permitted with a valid license. The "Basic License Course" costs about 5000 Rand. It starts with a tandem jump in the company of the teacher. It comprises 35 flightsand in-depth theoretical tuition.
